Chez Madame Arthur
Opened in 1946 by Germaine Cartan and still a staple of the Montmartre / Pigalle Quartier of Paris till today , Chez Madame Arthur gets its name from the song Madame Arthur by French singer Yvette Guilbert. Guilbert was painted by famous French Impressionist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Her funny figure and facial expression were even used as inspiration for the cover art of some of the cabaret's show programmes. The cabaret was home to many famous figures. Coccinelle and Bambi both debuted at Madame Arthur before headlining at Le Carrousel and staring in several films. Also French singer-songwriter and actor Serge Gainsbourg started his musical career as a piano player at Madame Arthur.
